Liverpool should be kicked out of the Champions League according to the president of one Serie A side.

Liverpool will take part in the Champions League this season aiming to bounce back after last season’s final heartache.

The Reds lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kiev back in May, with Gareth Bale scoring two stunning goals to give the La Liga giants the prize. The Reds suffered heartbreak in the final last season, losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kiev after a pair of howlers from Loris Karius.

But Napoli president De Laurentiis has made an extraordinary claim, accusing Liverpool and Serie A giants Roma of breaking UEFA rules by having the same owner.

UEFA guidelines do not permit two teams owned by the same people or company to take part in European competition.

Now, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has released a typically strong statement, accusing Liverpool and Roma of being owned by the same person.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, De Laurentiis said: “I have the feeling that Roma and Liverpool have the same owner.

“I was told by somebody a few years ago and if it was true they would not be allowed to play the Champions League.”

However, Liverpool and Roma supporters have nothing to be worried about.The Premier League giants are owned by The Fenway Sports Group, who took over back in 2010.

There is understood to be no actual concern however, as American businessman James Pallotta owns Roma as well as shares in the NBA’s Boston Celtics, while Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group own the MLB’s Boston Red Sox.

But if the allegations are true, then that could be the reason why Roma sold Alisson to Liverpool rather than Real Madrid and Chelsea who were also interested.
